How To View Port Status And Optical Module Information On Netgear Switches

Optical modules work on the switch usually need to read the internal information of the module to understand its working status, such as module connectivity and real-time collection of light, temperature, etc., through the identification of the module information can be detected by the module and the switch's coding compatibility; then how to view the working status of the optical module in the use of the Netgear switch as well as the internal information?

The following is an example of accessing Netgear M4250-26G4XF-PoE+ switch with Moduletek SFP-10G-SR optical module to show you the specific operation of reading the information of the accessed optical module on the Netgear switch (the commands are different for different models of switches).

1. Status of Optical Module

Execute the command "show port status slot/port " to view the interface status information;

The information output under this command includes interface rate, duplex mode, module type, module link status, etc. (Status is a prerequisite for the work of optical module).

Note: slot/port is the slot number and interface number of the module, you can execute the command "show port status all" to view the slot and interface number of the module.

2. Switch identification of modules

Execute the command "show fiber-ports optics-info slot/port " to view the identification information of the accessed optical module;

The information output under this command contains module type, model, vendor name, serial number, rate, etc., which is derived from the coded data written by the optical module.

3. Switch reads digital diagnostic data of the module.

Execute the command "show fiber-ports optics-diag slot/port " to view the diagnostic data of the access optical module;

The information output under this command is threshold data, DDM data, A2 coded data HEX and ACISS code, which is derived from the A2 Low, A2T00 data of the optical module (take SFP as an example).

4. Switch reads module eeprom data.

Execute the command "show fiber-ports optics-eeprom slot/port " to view the information of A0 area of the access optical module;

The information output under this command contains the module model, vendor name, serial number, date, etc., which is derived from the A0 Low, A0 High data of the optical module (take SFP as an example).

5. Optical module DDM data

Execute the command "show fiber-ports optics slot/port " to view the DDM information of the optical module on the device interface;

The information output under this command includes real-time data diagnosis and status. By paying attention to the received optical power, transmitted optical power, temperature value, current value and so on, you can check whether the working status of the optical modules on the equipment at both ends is normal.
